EXPLORING IDEAS, INVENTING SOLUTIONS

HMC ArchLab is a building science studio dedicated to the research and development of advancing high-performance architecture—architecture that is based in scientific knowledge focused on optimizing building performance. Virtual simulations, physical prototyping, and real-time surveying are among a number of methods used to evaluate building performance and drive evidence-based design as a means to augment sustainable solutions for the built environment. // read more

We’re in partnership with the Frontier Project, UC Berkeley’s Center for the Built Environment, and the Lyle Center for Regenerative Studies at Cal Poly Pomona, collaborating on green roofs, roof ponds, and evaporative cooling prototypes, along with indoor environmental quality surveys and comprehensive energy modeling analysis. Together, we “take the pulse” of living buildings and link outcomes of building systems and materials to inform design decisions. Our measurement and research provides us with meaningful data to support increased productivity and economical efficiencies.
